The org chart: cells, roles and cost
The org chart shows how your company is organized and which Digital Workers are on where. It is made of cells: a product line, a function, a site, a region or a division. Each cell has people with roles, and workers turned on or off.
In a business workspace, go to Home. Under Alex in the left menu, tap Org Chart. Or ask Alex: "Show me the org chart."
Two views
- Work view. Each cell, nested inside the cell it belongs to, with its people, their roles and the workers turned on there.
- Reporting view. The traditional tree: who reports to whom.
Owners and admins see every cell. Anyone else sees only the cells they hold a role in. A one-person workspace shows one line and nothing to set up. The chart grows when a second person or a second cell joins.
Roles
| Role | What it means |
|---|---|
| Lead | Runs the cell |
| Staff | Works in the cell |
| Advisor | Advises the cell |
| Observer | Can see the cell |
| Budget owner | Owns the cell's cost |
A role can be marked acting, or run until a date you choose.
Who can change what
| Who | Can |
|---|---|
| Owner or admin | Add and change cells, make someone a Lead or Budget owner, attach a signed agreement, set reporting lines |
| A cell's Lead | In their own cell: add or end Advisor, Staff and Observer, and turn workers on or off |
| Everyone else | Look |
- Whoever creates a cell leads it, unless they name someone else.
- Nobody can give themself a role.
- An advisor or partner is labeled that way, never as an employee. Their role stays inactive until a signed agreement is on file.
- Removing a member ends their roles and reporting lines.
- A signed agreement comes from your Governance records. If none matches, Alex tells you to add it there first.
Make a change on screen
- Tap Add a cell, Add someone or Turn a worker on or off. For a reporting line, use the Reporting view.
- Fill in the form and tap the button.
- Alex asks you to confirm the change. Tap Yes, do it, or Cancel.
Make a change in chat
Say what you want: "Create a cell called Investor raise and make Maya its lead." Alex puts every change on one approval card, up to 25 at a time. Tap Apply and they all happen together, in order, or none do. Tap Not now and nothing changes. If anything the card touches changed after you saw it, the card can't be applied and Alex shows a new one.
If two people match a name, Alex asks which one. He never guesses.
Turn a worker off in a cell
- Tap Turn a worker on or off, pick the worker and the cell, and choose on or off. Or ask: "Turn Reed off in the Marketing cell."
- Confirm.
A worker can be on in several cells. Turning it off in one cell doesn't remove it from your team or from the other cells. To remove a worker from your team, see Getting started.
What the workers cost
Under the Work view, Alex shows the AI operating cost for the month: what your Digital Workers cost to run, by cell and by worker. Ask "What are the workers costing?" for the same thing in chat.
- A call counts toward the cell its worker was on in at the time. A later change doesn't move last month's cost.
- A worker shared by several cells: a call goes to the cell it can be traced to, such as the cell its user works in. What can't be traced is split in proportion to each cell's traced calls to that worker that month.
- What can't be placed lands in Unallocated, with the reason. Cells plus Unallocated equal the total.
- Owners and admins see every cell and the total. A cell's Lead or Budget owner sees only their cells. Everyone else doesn't see cost.
This is the cost of running Digital Workers. It is never payroll, headcount or a tax record.
