Accounts and transactions

Connected Accounts lists the bank, card and payment accounts Max reads. Transactions lists every line on file with its date, description, amount and category.

Connect a bank

  1. Open Connected Accounts and tap Connect via Stripe.
  2. Follow Stripe's secure steps. Stripe pulls the balance and transactions in the background.
  3. A few minutes later, tap Sync now to read them.
  4. Set what each account is for (see below).

If you added the same account by hand earlier, Max offers to merge the two into one record. Linking an account and every refresh is paid from your data balance.

Add an account by hand

Tap + Add manually, pick the type (Checking, Savings, Credit Card, Stripe, PayPal Business, another processor, Payroll or Other), fill in the details and tap Save.

Say what an account is for

Each account has a role. Pick one under "What is this account for?":

Remove an account

Tap Remove. Max tells you how many transactions are linked (they stay in your books as history) and that syncing stops. Removed accounts are listed with Restore.

Bring in transactions

  1. Open Transactions.
  2. Tap Upload statements (pick one or many), or tap Import from Drive to pick a statement already in your Drive. Max reads each line and suggests a category from your chart of accounts.
  3. Review the lines. Change a category with its menu and tick the lines you want. Select auto-categorized ticks the confident ones. Skip transfers unticks transfers between your own accounts.
  4. Tap Commit to save the ticked lines. Discard all throws the import away.
  5. To mark a transaction as repeating, tap Mark recurring on its row.

Uploading the same statement again never adds a line twice. A very long statement may be read only part way: Max tells you, so you can split it by month.

A company card Stripe doesn't offer

Some cards, such as Mercury, can't be linked. Export the card's transactions as a CSV and upload it in Transactions. Answer once: "A company credit card." Charges become expenses, the card's balance is money the company owes, and payments from checking are transfers that net out.

Categories are yours

Max applies a category on his own only for a payee you already confirmed. Pick a category once and he remembers it for that payee. Ask in chat to categorize a transaction and approve the card.

A deposit can't be made income from a category change. See Loans and funding.
